Torbet wears a mortarboard and robe as he shows Anne Jones a book, while Royal, wearing a fake beard and mortarboard, plays the guitar behind them. This was a publicity shot for the production of Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" by the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego's Balboa Park. Royal was an alumnus of San Diego State College and a veteran of World War II. He wrote a letter to the Aztec News Letter, available at MS-0369-09R-58.
