Born Edith Elizabeth Carne in rural San Diego in 1914; she grew up in Sunnyside turning thousands of chicken eggs every day at Carne's Hatchery. She graduated with honors from Sweetwater Union High School, class of 1931. Charter member of local hiking club since 1935, through four club name changes, she still organized and led day hikes. Starting in 1932 at San Diego State Teacher's College, she graduated with honors from San Diego State, and taught fourth grade for 36 years. She was active in American Association of University Women, and has the WHO award. She married Lee Wyatt in 1947, and raised 2 sons. She died in 2013.
