The strains of Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde: Prelude and Liebestod" begin almost immediately, conducted by Zoltan Rozsnai. This work continues until intermission, at about 36 minutes. The bass baritone voice is that of McHenry Boatwright, and the soprano is Emma Small. The chorus is made up of the San Diego Symphonic Chorale, with Robert Emile as director and Howard D. Small as assistant director; and the San Diego State College Aztec Concert Choir with J. Dayton Smith as director and Jean Moe as assistant director. Following this the entire concert after intermission is a work of Brahms, "A German Requiem from words of the Holy Scripture," Opus 45, beginning at about 36 minutes. The chorus sounds as if the tape is running fast, and there is a skip close to the beginning.
