Introduction and commentary: Eddington, John

John Eddington introduces the San Diego Symphony playing in their third concert of the 1969-1970 winter season at the San Diego Civic Theatre, San Diego. He explains that KSDO broadcasts the performances on each Sunday following the concerts. Guest artist Erno Daniel, pianist is featured in this all-Hungarian conducted by Zoltan Rozsnyai that includes Bela Bartok's "Divertimento for String Orchestra"; Liszt's "Totentanz" in this half of the concert, before intermission. This file includes only the first two pieces. Eddington begins to describe the pieces on the program but interrupts his commentary when the audience quiets and the orchestra begins its tuning exercises. Leaving only the string section, the orchestra files out and the concertmeister precedes Rozsnyai, the conductor. The Bartok piece begins at around 7 minutes and ends at around 36 minutes. Eddington discusses "Totentanz" as the remaining orchestra members return and they await the guest soloist. This piece begins at around 39 minutes and ends at around 56 minutes. The broadcast goes to intermission, and the tape ends there.
