This Black Manuscript has extensive fabric artwork, mainly on the front and back covers, where elaborate needlework using embroidery thread spells out the title and illustrates a man, then a man with a small boy in a clearing by and in water. Two pages of fabric precede the table of contents and numbered pages containing hand-drawn stories. The date is the last one in the table of contents.
