Devlin, Lawrence R.
Devlin's little group of alumni from San Diego State College (Lionel Chase, George Forbes, Bob Wade and the writer) scattered from North Africa. "Not to be outdone," Devlin's outfit "also went for a little boat ride," which he says is "hardly the way to describe an excursion on an L.S.T." (tank landing ship). He and Wade are back closer together, though. The native people are still nervous after Mussolini's description of the Americans as "gangsters."
