Boothby, Guy E.
Boothby writes that "there is not much that I can add to what the papers have probably already said [about the Battle of Tarawa] except that the saki the [Japanese] have works wonders in keeping you on your feet." A Japanese radio broadcast claimed that there were 50,000 Americans to their 4,000, but Boothby says that "by the time we were ashore the odds were almost even."
