Leaf, William R.
Leaf says his unit has three "pleasures in life" in the South Pacific: "receiving mail from home; two is bare back riding; and three is swimming." The mail is slow; the riding means "you have to stand up to eat your meals"; and "sharks are all you have to contend with when swimming." The 3rd battalion of the 251st Coast Artillery Corps (Anti-Aircraft) was sent to Nadi, Fiji to defend the airport there.
