Hilliard gives a change of address from the Camp Sutton of his stationery, having arrived in Wisconsin "last Wednesday." Camp details are the focus of much of his letter. Most of the men in his battalion are from California, but he receives no word directly from "any of the fellows" from San Diego State College.
