Fitzell, Gilbert Ord
Aviation Cadet Fitzell reports that he hasn't "been able to fully realize we are in a war," and that he has "never worked so hard in my life" as in the navigation course. He goes to school 9-1/2 hours on weekdays and 4 on Saturdays, besides an hour each of drill and sports every day. But the work is interesting and the instructors "'regular' boys." Fitzell was killed in action over Cerignola, Italy, on January 11, 1944.
