Cleator reconstructed pay accounts that sank with a ship as well as built "a small city." He describes New Caledonia, where all the natives are "Charley," and "Spam is our blue plate special." While lamenting the deaths of Tom Cozens, "Milky" Phelps, and the San Diego mayor, he sends special holiday greetings to "Pop" Brooks and fellow Eta Omega Delta brothers ("Hods").
