Japanese Garden, Bernheimer Hill, Hollywood, California
These Japanese-style gardens were part of the Bernheimer estate on a hill above Hollywood Boulevard (on Sycamore Avenue). The estate was reportedly built to house the Asian collection of the Bernheimer brothers, Charles and Adolph. The Bernheimer home can be seen in PC-00-278, built in 1914 as a replica of a palace near Kyoto, Japan. These houses are part of the miniature Japanese village surrounded by canals. The estate, later called Yamashiro after the region of Japan in which the original palace was located, became a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2008.
