Sans Souci Castle built by Alfred Castles, Hollywood, California
Castle Sans Souci (castle without a care) was built in 1912 by Doctor Alfred Castles (born Schloesser, meaning "castles"), who changed his name during World War I to avoid anti-German sentiment in the United States. This was his second castle, the first having proved to be too small. Another postcard identifies the staircase as the one used in the movie "Tillie's Punctured Romance" (1914). The card was manufactured after World War I, since the printed back refers to entertaining members of the United States Army and Navy during the war.
