Melville Gravure Process
The homes of Hollywood movie stars have traditionally been the objects of tours and the subjects of postcards. Many postcards were constructed like this one, with a photograph of the home and an inset of a publicity photograph of the actor. In this case the celebrity was not an actor but a painter known for his flower paintings and gardens, Paul de Longpre (1855-1911), who had a street and a park in Hollywood named after him. The house was demolished a few years after his death. The divided back of this postcard fills the message space with promotional material from the Hollywood Board of Trade, including the fact that at the time Hollywood was "Six Years Old." The city was incorporated in 1903 and did not merge with Los Angeles until 1910.
