Pier at Hermosa Beach, California, showing surf and residences
Van Ornum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles, California
Although the card is unsent, there is a message: "My home is here" with an arrow pointing to a section of land is handwritten on the front. The first municipal pier was built in 1904 but was partly washed away in 1913. The new pier was constructed of concrete its entire length and paved with asphalt. Since this pier is clearly made of planks, the card dates from before 1913. The town of Hermosa Beach was incorporated in 1907 with two miles of ocean frontage. This is a promotional postcard with a message on the divided back claiming "the most sanitary beach in California," closeness to Los Angeles, and that "five miles of asphalt streets are being laid."
