C.T. Photochrom, Chicago, Illinois [Curt Teich]
The first municipal pier was built in 1904 but was partly washed away in 1913. The exact date the remains were torn down and the new pier rebuilt is unknown, but it was constructed of concrete its entire length (1,000 feet or 300 meters) and paved with asphalt. The structures seen in this image were tiled pavilions for shade, fishing, and picnics. The number on the back of the card is A-75419, which, according to the guide maintained by the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, translates to 1917.
