Van Ornum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles, California
Constructed in 1888, this hotel was destroyed on November 29, 1915 by the fire that destroyed one-third to one-half of Avalon. It was on Crescent Avenue across the street from the Steamer Pier. The motto "On the Road Of A Thousand Wonders" on the back of this picture postcard " indicates that Santa Catalina Island was considered a destination for a promotion of The Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific, which included San Pedro, California. Ferry steamships ran from San Pedro several times daily. There are promotional booklets from 1907 and 1908. The beach in front of the hotel featured cabanas.
