The date of this postcard is defined by the copyright date in the lower left corner. According to the Catalina Chamber of Commerce Web site, construction began on the pier just to the left of center (parallel to shore) in 1906. How long it took before it looked like the pier in PC-001-155 is unknown, but by the time it was destroyed in 1908 it stretched all the way from the Steamer Pier, at which the steamship shown is about to dock, to the mainland where the rightmost trees are. On the right on the hill, the Peter Gano House is prominent, built in 1890. Toward the horizon on the right is Sugar Loaf Point, the defining structure at the northwest end of the Bay, with Sugar Loaf Rock jutting into the Pacific Ocean.
