Moonstone Beach, Santa Catalina Island, California
Van Ornum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles
Two glass-bottom boats wait just off Moonstone Beach, northwest of Avalon. Two rowboats have taken loads of tourists to the beach to search for moonstones and other curios. "On the Road of a thousand wonders" on the back indicates that Catalina was considered a destination for a promotion of The Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Maps of the period indicate that San Pedro was on this route, from which one could catch a steamship to Catalina. The promotional campaign produced booklets in 1907 and 1908, with 1908 being the inaugural year for both the contributor and the publisher.
