According to the Catalina Chamber of Commerce, "the round, Art Deco structure rises the eqivalent of 12 stories," now "surrounded by the sea on three sides." Never a gambling establishment, the "casino" was built as a ballroom and movie theater, one of the first outfitted for sound, in 1929, known as the "Avalon Ballroom" to radio listenders from the 1930s to 1950s. The back of the postcard gives, along with the title, the information that the viewpoint is from the Via Casino near the Tuna Club, and the photographer's number, GW 387. copyright symbol and copyright date.
