[Curt Teich & Co., Inc., Chicago, Illinois]
Glass-bottom boats began as rowboats plying the tourist trade around Santa Catalina Island, but as the tourist trade increased the boats got larger, until this one, the "Empress," sported two decks. The "W" flag flying on the aft mast indicates that the boat was owned by the Wilmington Transportation Company. The publisher's number in the top margin is C. I. 19. The number in the right lower corner is 91800 is a typical place for prolific printer and publisher Curt Teich to place his identification, which, according to the guide maintained by the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, translates to 1922.
