"Bungalettes" of Island Villa and Villa Park, Avalon, Catalina Island, California, 1926

In 1925 a campaign began on behalf of "California's Magic Isle," Catalina Island. It was marked by a flag with a "W" on it for the Wilmington Transportation Company, and the motto "In All The World No Trip Like This." Villa Park and Island Villa in the center of Avalon were built to handle the expected influx of tourists, the "largest one-floor hotel in the world," with 1256 one-room "bungalettes, European plan." The number on the back of the card is 109272, which, according to the guide maintained by the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, translates to 1926.
