The isthmus of Santa Catalina Island, California, looking southeast
This is the site that later became the town of Two Harbors at the isthmus of Catalina Island. At almost the exact middle of the card is a long, low structure with a whitish roof and reddish walls, the Bannng House, built in 1910 as a summer house for the owners of Catalina Island, the three sons of Phineas Banning. It overlooks both the Isthmus Cove shown here and the Catalina Harbor seen as a strip of blue leading away from the back of the house, which later became a lodge, toward the right and the pink skyline. The dirt road on the right was almost certainly the stagecoach road from Avalon, the end of a two-day journey. The publisher, only represented by his logo and initials on the divided back, has his number in front of the title as 5501.
