"On the Road of a thousand wonders" on the bottom left of this picture postcard indicates that Santa Catalina Island was considered a destination for a promotion of The Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific from Los Angeles through San Francisco, to Portland, by Southern Pacific Railroad. Maps of the period indicate that San Pedro was on this route, from which one could catch a steamship to Catalina. The publisher's number in the left bottom corner is E. 1. The card was made in Germany. It has a legible postmark but barely legible handwriting, and a commemorative postage stamp.
