Treasure Island in Big Bear Lake, in the San Bernardino Mountains of California, is also known as China Island, but its correct name is Garstin Island for its owner Maude Garstin, who erected the buildings seen here in 1911. This is a Real Photo Post Card (RPPC), meaning that it was created by a process in which any photographer could take a "snapshot," deliver the negative to a photo developer, and have it printed on a postcard backing. The special papers used for this process are indexed by brand and date, and the Azo papers used for this photograph were issued from 1917-1930, according to the symbols bordering the stampbox on the back. The photographer's number on the bottom left is 15.
