Treasure Island in Big Bear Lake, in the San Bernardino Mountains of California, is also known as China Island, but its correct name is Garstin Island for its owner Maude Garstin, who erected the buildings seen here in 1911. This is a Real Photo Post Card (RPPC), meaning that it was created by a process in which any photographer could take a "snapshot," deliver the negative to a photo developer, and have it printed on a postcard backing. The special papers used for this process are indexed by brand and date, and this Azo paper was issued between 1917 and 1930, according to the symbols bordering the stampbox on the back.
