[Curt Teich & Co., Inc., Chicago, Illinois]
This picture postcard is labelled "Balboa, California," and in this case that probably means Balboa Island, given that the view to the west includes Bay Island. The Balboa Peninsula, stretching southeast from Newport Beach, shelters harbors and artificial islands created from dredging the Newport Bay estuary in the 1900s, including one island called Balboa Island. This is confirmed by a sign on the pier reading "Balboa Island." There is no attribution, but there is a number at the bottom of the dividing line on the back in a position and style typical of publisher, creator and printer Curt Teich. The Curt Teich Postcard Archives places this number, A-10746, in the range of 1908-1910, but the publisher began operations in 1910. The publisher's number on the back is 2770.
