Th postcard ceatures a wooden pier with colorfully dressed people. Rowboats surround the pier. Although this picture postcard is labelled Balboa Bay, in the 21st century Balboa Bay does not appear on maps. The Balboa Peninsula, stretching southeast from Newport Beach, shelters harbors and artificial islands created from dredging the Newport Bay estuary in the 1900s, including an island called "Balboa Island." Curt Teich's number on the back of the card, A-84023, translates to 1921, according to the Curt Teich Postcard Archives.
