The background of both panels is a coastal landscape. In the foreground is a Spanish conquistador and two Gabrleleno Indians meeting at the shore. In the other panel (mural id 173) modern-day Santa Monicans enjoy some of the region's many outdoor leisure pursuits. A circular petrochrome of the City of Santa Monica's official seal is set into the center of the lobby floor. The panels flank the front entrance to Santa Monica City Hall.

Agency: Federal Art Project.
