Picture postcard of Hepner Hall with Hardy Tower in the background, San Diego State College
Hopkins News Agency, San Diego, California
Hepner Hall is in the foreground of this linen picture postcard, one of the first buildings constructed in 1930, known then as the "academic building," which is what it is called on this card. Hardy Tower, centered in the background, was not known yet by that name either, since University President Edward L. Hardy (serving 1910-1935) was still in office, preceding the college's third president, Walter Hepner (president from 1935-1952), who became president in the same year the college became a university. The Hepner name was applied to the hall in 1976. These buildings were designed by state architect Howard Spencer Hazen (1882-1939), along with the Little Theatre and the science building. Hepner Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is the same image as on PC-000-959, which is not damaged. The publisher's number on the back is 11544N.
