San Diego State College, Decalcomania Transfer Picture
The main feature of this color picture postcard is a water-slide decal with dotted lines for cutting it out and placing into water to remove and stick to any surface. The word "decal" is short for "decalcomania," the English version of the French word "decalcomanie," a version of the verb "decalquer." San Diego State College had that designation from 1935-1972, having been a state teacher's college, and then becoming San Diego State University in 1972. The of this group of founding buildings on the Montezuma Mesa campus can be distinguished just to the right of the middle, the Hardy Tower (1931). The transfer process was brought to the United States in 1865 and is the subject of several patents. This is a divided back untraveled card with the words "Transfer Picture Post Card" on the back.
