The San Diego Hotel, shown here on a picture postcard, was designed by Harrison Albright (1866-1932) for John D. Spreckels (1853-1926), San Diego entrepreneur and civic leader. Built in 1914 in time for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, it closed in 2001 and was demolished in 2006 desite its listing in 1983 as San Diego Historical Site Number 175. Like many old hotels in San Diego, in its latter years it provided low-income housing. The name Sam S. Porter is printed below the name and location of the hotel on the back of the card.
