New Southern Hotel, San Diego, California, US
The New Southern Hotel shown on this hand-tinted picture postcard looks to be the same, with the same vintage of automobiles, as the photograph in the collection of the San Diego History Center (#1) dated 1916. The building does not yet have the big "New Southern Motel sign it acquired later. It was open for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, advertising in the Sunset Magazine of July 1915. It became the Southern Hotel, offering low-income housing on a weekly or monthly basis. The publisher's sequential number on the back of the card is 10220.
