Picture postcard advertising The Berkshire Motor Hotel on U. S. Highway 80, San Diego, California
This linen picture postcard advertising The Berkshire Motor Hotel on U. S. Highway 80 in San Diego was produced by Colourpicture, a postcard publisher operating between 1938 and 1969, specializing in linen cards, which phased out in the early 1950s . The card bears a small stamp of approval from the Automobile Club of Southern California (American Automobile Association or AAA). The address listed on this card is 2500 El Cajon Boulevard, but in 2013 the address of the Berkshire Motel, looking much the same except forthe sign, parking lot, and foliage, is 2502, although it is still on the corner of El Cajon Boulevard and Arizona Avenue. U. S. Highway 80 was decommissioned starting in 1964, and Interstate 8 opened in 1965. The addess includes a postal code, not a ZIP code, which places it before 1963, and a telephone exchange instead of an area code, a system which was implemented between 1958 and the 1980s. The Colourpicture number on the back of this card is K 1738.
