The Hotel Florence was designed by William W. Bowers (1834-1917, Alonzo Horton's brother-in-law) and opened in 1884. According to an article in the Journal of San Diego History for July 1959, the Florence was San Diego's "Nob Hill" (a reference to a San Francisco hill with rich inhabitants). In 1891, San Diego architect William Sterling Hebbard (1863-1930) remodeled the hotel. By 1907 it was the Hotel Robinson, so the postmark on the back of this card (1915) indicates that it wasn't sent right away. By 1919 the hotel had changed names again to Casa Loma. In 2014 the address is that of a Sharp-Rees-Stealy medical center.
