Linen picture postcard of Franklin Apartment Hotel near Balboa Park, San Diego, California

 

 

 

 

The printing on the picture side of this linen picture postcard says that the Franklin Partment Hotel pictured (looking like a hand-tinted photograph) is "on U. S. 80 & 395, near Balboa Park"). By 1964, US 395 had ceased to go that far south, and in that year US 80 started a 10-year decommissioning process in favor of Interstate 8. However, earlier dates are suggested for this card by the "linen era" of postcards, 1930-1945 and the fact that the Colourpicture publishers operated from 1938-1969. This gives a date range of 1938-1950s.
