The Horton House, demolished in 1905, was a San Diego hotel opened in 1870.
This picture postcard is an invitation to a book-signing event for Elizabeth C. MacPhail's book The Story of New San Diego and of its Founder Alonzo E. Horton in 1979, with a photograph of the hotel that was printed "courtesy of Title Insurance & Trust, San Diego." This photograph is exactly similar to one in the collection of the San Diego History Center, which is dated circa 1880 and labeled "Horton Plaza." The site encompasses not only the later ground belonging to the U. S. Grant Hotel but also the Horton Plaza across Broadway from the hotel.
