Real Photo Post Card showing interior of room with grandfather clock and other furniture
F. M. Scheer, San Diego, California, UA
Azo photo paper
This Real Photo Post Card shows an interior room with a grandfather clock, a chair, a picture of a Gothic cathedral on the wall, and a portion of another piece of furniture beside the clock and mostly out of the photograph. The Real Photo process allowed amateur and professional photographers to take "snap shots," deliver the film to a photo-finishing shop, and take away postcards ready for mailing. The "F. M. Scheer" whose stamp is on the back of the postcard might have been the photographer or the photo finisher. The stamp box on the back of the card indicates that the Azo paper used to process the photograph was made between 1926 and the 1940s. This type of paper could be processed indoors with no special lighting, as is suggested by the pattern of light and shadows on the clock and chair. There are no marks on the card except for the photograph and, on the back, the usual printing of a "divided back" postcard allowing for both a message and an address to be written on the same side. The card was not postally used.
