Real Picture postcard of Powam Lodge, San Diego, California
Azo photo paper
The Kodak process developed in the early 20th century made it possible for amateur or professional photographers to print directly onto postcard blanks. The stamp box on the back of this Real Photo Post Card (PRPC) indicates that the paper for this this card was manufactured sometime between 1926 and the 1940s. There is no publisher or creator noted. The same photograph is printed on a postcard with different writing. Another photograph, with a view from the opposite end of the lodge, in the collection of the San Diego Historical Society, identifies the place as in Mesa Grande, taken around 1920, and with a proprietor at that time of Ed H. Davis. The lodge looks basically the same as in this photograph. Edward H. Davis (1862-1951), artist and ethnographer, built the lodge in 1915 after moving to Mesa Grande in 1885. Mesa Grande is located between Lake Henshaw and the Cleveland National Forest in San Diego County.
