Picture postcard of San Diego and San Diego Bay as seen from the El Cortez Hotel
The El Cortez Hotel, opened in 1927, was the tallest building in San Diego until 1963. This linen postcard offers a view of San Diego and San Diego Bay from this hotel. Toward the left and jutting up to the horizon is the San Diego Trust & Savings Building on Broadway between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. This structure was built in 1928. On the horizon on the right is Point Loma, and in the middle of the visible San Diego Bay are the North and South Islands that were joined in 1943, making up the whole of Coronado "Island" (connected to the mainland later by the "Silver Strand" of narrow beach). Linen postcards were manufactured from around 1930-1950s.
