This "view from the Harbor," San Diego, on a hand-tinted picture postcard, might be the Broadway pier. A photograph taken in 1912 of "harbor - foot of Broadway" (San Diego Historical Society) appears to have the same little brown shed-like structure on the left and about the width of pier shown in this picture. In any case, areas described as "pier," "wharf," "harbor," "mud flats," etc. at the beginning of the 20th century, when the publisher of this postcard operated (1900-1920) were at the foot of Broadway and Fifth and Sixth Avenues. This card has an "undivided back," meaning that postal regulations did not allow for anything but an address to be written on the back until 1907. It does, however, have the words "Post Card" printed on the back, which was allowed starting in 1901. The publisher's number on the back is 2959.
