W. E. Averett
Azo photo paper
This black-and-white picture postcard by W. E. Averett is a real photo postcard (RPPC). This process allowed both amateur and professional photographers to take a "snap shot" to a photo finishing shop and have it printed on a postcard backing. These photo papers were usually identified in the stampbox of the postcard. In this case the paper is commonly dated between 1917-1930 by Azo. It appears to be an aerial view of San Diego laid out from Laurel Street on the west (about the vertical middle), crossing the Cabrillo Bridge as El Prado, with the Administration Building, California Building and Tower along El Prado, and the rest of the 1915 Panama-California Exposition buildings spreading mostly east but also a little north and south. To the south of the Exposition are the Marine parade grounds, with the tents visible. Threading through the Cabrillo Bridge is Camino Cabrillo, that became State Route 163. On the south is San Diego's "New Town."
