This view of the skyline of San Diego features the El Cortez Hotel and the Spreckels Building, with trees in the foreground. The Spreckels Theatre opened in 1912, designed by Harrison Albright (1866-1932). The El Cortez Hotel was built in 1927, the first San Diego high-rise building, designed by the architectural firm of Albert Walker and Percy Eisen. The hand-colored photograph on this picture postcard was taken before the lit sign was erected on top of the El Cortez in 1937.
