The Progressive Spiritualist Church, San Diego, California

 

The building and minister of the Progressive Spiritualist Church of San Diego are shown on the image side of this picture postcard. The church is stated to have been "erected by Sophia Meyran" in 1914 on Alabama Street at El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego, California. The direction to take a streetcar with the destination of the Normal School places the postcard between 1897, when the normal school opened, and 1921, when all "normal schools" in California became state teachers colleges. The church is also said to be "Chartered with the California State Spiritualists' Association, May 29, 1914." John W. Ring is listed as the minster, with a telephone number in the Hillcrest exchange.
