Picture postcard showing an interior view and the outside entrance of the El Nopal Dining Room, San Diego
The image side of this linen picture postcard shows interior and exterior views of the El Nopal Dining Room separated by a cartoon of a stereotypical Mexican having a siesta, with mountains and a prickly-pear cactus (the English for "Nopal"). On the reverse is the address of the restaurant, which is the same as the 2013 Rancho El Nopal, 4016 Wallace Street in San Diego, California. This same statement avers that the restaurant was "built on the site of the Historic Old Congress Hall," but the "Congress Hall Site" listed by California's Office of Historic Preservation places Congress Hall on Calhoun Street within the San Diego State Historic Park. The publisher was active from 1938-1969, and the linen-postcard era was from about 1930 to the 1950s. The publisher number on the back of the card is KE640.
