This color picture postcard depicts--according to the reverse of the image--a "circular ear ornament inlaid with a mosaic of turquoise, mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, red Spondylus shell, and green stone, surrounded by a shell ring and a border of gold beads." According to this statement, this artifact was part of an exhibit of "Peru's Golden Treasures" at the San Diego Museum of Art from August 25-November 30, 1980. The Chimu culture flourished on the northern coast of Peru, competing with the Inca, until the Inca triumphed 50 years before the Spanish conquistadors arrived. The publisher's number in the stampbox on the back of the card is 32636-2.
