The Fine Arts Gallery that later became the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park
Hopkins News Agency, San Diego, California, US
The Fine Arts Galley that later became the San Diego Museum of Art is shown on this picture postcard. Built in Balboa Park, it was dedicated and opened to the public in 1926, designed by William Templeton Johnson (1877-1957) and funded by Appleton Bridges (1848-1929). The building was called the Palace of Fine Arts during the California Pacific Exposition of 1935. From 1926 to 1978, this building was known as the Fine Arts Gallery, and this is a "linen" postcard, a type of card produced from around 1930 to the early 1950s, thus limiting the date range for this postcard to the "linen" period. The publisher's numbe on he card back is 11578
