A saddle-backed tapir stands with the fence of its cage behind and beside it at the San Diego Zoo
This animal is identified as a "saddle-backed tapir," otherwise known as a Malay tapir. In what appears to be a black-and-white photograph, the tapir is centered in a corner of its cage, with fencing to its rear and left side at the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. In 2013, the range of tapirs is Indonesia, Malaysia, and Burma (Myanmar). According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), in this same year the tapir's conservation status is "endangered."
