This "Animal Color Series" picture postcard "from the San Diego Zoo" identifies the animals in what is apparently a photograph in the picture portion of the postcard as "Baby Indian Elephants." In this photograph, a baby elephant is reaching out with its trunk to a larger baby on the left while standing with its left side to the camera. The other elephant is facing 3/4 forward. Both are standing on level ground in front of a bamboo fence, with a palm tree on the left and the opening of what is probably an animal house on the right. Indian elephants are a subspecies of the Asian elephant, which is classified in 2013 as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). What appears to be a Curt Teich number is in the stampbox on the back of the card, 0DK-2114, indicating the year 1960.
