A standing Bactrian camel nuzzles a calf lying on the ground, with zoo buildings behind them
Hester & Smith, Inc., San Diego, California, US
A standing adult Bactrian camel leans down to nuzzle a calf who is lying down but with head erect. Behind the animals are apparenty zoo buildings, since the message portion of this color picture postcard states that it is part of an "Animal Color Series from the San Diego Zoo." It identifies the animals as "Bactrian Camel and Young" from "Chinese Turkestan and Mongolia." In 2013 the conservation status of this animal is "critically endangered, possibly extinct in the wild," according to the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California.
